Oh my gosh, y'all -- pigs have sprouted wings and Rebecca has finally accomplished her One Monthly Goal by the end of the month. I know what you're thinking: flying pigs are much easier to believe. All nine of my FrankenWhiggish Rose blocks now have their eight tiny broderie perse rosebuds stitched down in their centers:

The block on the lower left is the only one that is 100% complete with its stuffed berries, so making 96 more of those and stitching them to the other eight blocks is the next task for this project. Side note: I wish I'd used a greater variety of fabrics for my pieced block backgrounds, because it was annoyingly difficult to come up with a layout for the blocks that didn't put two of the same fabrics next to one another. And I'm loving how my new-and-improved design wall is working out in the hallway:

By the way, there's an added benefit of the white Bump drapery interlining that I used to recover my design wall, in addition to it complementing my gray walls better than the natural cotton batting. This is one of those projects where the colors in my photos never look much like the fabrics do in real life, but it was so easy to correct that with a single click using the White Balance tool in photo editing software, just by clicking the white design wall surrounding my blocks.
This project is so near completion and it was such a challenge to get the blocks laid out that I might just leave them up on the wall and take them down one at a time to do the berries. Here's a close up of the fussy-cut stuffed berries from the finished block so you can see what I need to make more of: |

The selvage of my fussy-cut stuffed berry fabric tells me that it's Honky Tonk by Eric & Julie Comstock for Moda, Stock #37086. A quick search of every quilt shop on Earth via the Internet turned up only one quilt shop in Japan that has any of this fabric left, and what they have is the right pattern but the wrong (green instead of coral) color way. That's what happens when you don't get around to finishing a project until 10+ years after you bought your fabric! So hopefully the 1/2 yard piece of well-aged yardage in my stash will suffice for all of my remaining berries.

The rendering above was made in my EQ8 software by repeating/tiling a photo of the first block I completed and adding borders. This would end up somewhere in the neighborhood of 66" x 66" depending on what size I decide to trim my blocks, and that wide outer border would probably be pieced from different neutral fabric prints like my block backgrounds depending on whether I have any of those fabrics left. The plan is for a traditional fancy feather quilting design in that outer border, when/if I ever get this finished. I am definitely closer to finishing than I was in July, right? That's the whole point of the One Monthly Goal linky party!

It's coming along nicely! Some things take time and need to marinate and mature. Will this be a wall hanging when you finish it? (And I am confident that you will finish it!)
Now you have me curious which quilt store in Japan has it! Those stuffed berries are looking very cute. And your final digital rendition--looks awesome! You are on your way!
This is so pretty! Keep plugging away and get as many completed before you start the 7 Sisters blocks. I'm hoping to see a completed flimsy by Christmas, happy stitching!
I'm stunned at how gorgeous this is! I love the backgrounds, and those little berries just make it pop. Gosh it even looks good "as is" on that wall - looks like a piece of art.

Amazing work Rebecca! Initially, I'd have gone for no berries, but looking at the EQ version, the extra tiny stuffed berries really are wonderful, sew worth all the extra time & effort.
