Custom Quilting FINISHED on Judy Niemeyer Prismatic Star Queen Quilt

Today's post will be quick, short on commentary, and loaded with photos because I just could not resist showing you how gorgeous my client's Prismatic Star Queen turned out after quilting!

My client Mildred used Judy Niemeyer's Quiltworx pattern, Prismatic Star Queen, to foundation paper piece her quilt top.  Several Etsy sellers have this pattern available here.  I believe my client may have purchased the pattern and batik fabrics together as a kit.

Feathers Aplenty, Feathers Galore

Since Mildred wanted me to quilt her top to look "just like the pattern cover photo," I used the digital design set that Quiltworx created specifically for this quilt, the same one they used to quilt the sample quilt on the pattern cover.  

I also did hand guided stitch-in-the-ditch quilting with rulers along the sashing seams that outline the star sections.

Feathers Upon Feathers...

I used Superior's MonoPoly invisible monofilament thread in Clear for truly invisible ditch quilting, and all of the feather quilting was done with Glide 40 weight thread in color 60566 Pale Mist.  The batting is Quilter's Dream 80/20 Cotton/Poly for a traditional look with just a little bit more loft, as well as less of a tendency to crease along fold lines than you get with 100% cotton batting.  Here's another shot of the quilt top prior to quilting -- it was gorgeous when it came to me, and the feather quilting is just like the icing on a fabulous cake!

I'll be trimming and binding this quilt today and tomorrow so I can get this quilt back to Mildred next week.  She has been waiting patiently for this custom quilting since May.

Princess Petunia Still Likes Her Dresden Plates Quilt, 8 Years Later

I made that for my niece eight years ago, to replace her baby quilted that was shredding and falling apart (she STILL wouldn't give it up!).  My sister sent me this picture a few days ago from their trip to St. Lucia over the Labor Day holiday.  It was nice to see that my niece is still using and enjoying this quilt enough to bring it with her on vacation!  (And no, my sister did NOT name her Princess Petunia, but she SHOULD have).

Secret Scrappy Project In Progress!

Finally, do you see that paltry and pitiful scrap bin?  Those are my pink, red and orange scraps, and they are being used for a Secret Scrappy Improv project in connection with Kelly Young's new book Scrappy Improv Quilting: 22 Mini Quilts to Make with Easy Piecing.  I am having SO MUCH FUN with this and I can't wait to share what I've been working on, but I promised to wait until my stop on the Blog Tour Kelly's hosting to promote the book launch.
