You guys, I have been DYING to show you this client's quilt ever since it was on my frame a month ago, but I was sworn to secrecy. This quilt top was created by my client Preeti of SewPreetiQuilts using improv piecing techniques (no pattern available). Her inspiration for the quilt, entitled "Spring Broken," was the lost opportunity to enjoy this year's Spring Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. due to pandemic restrictions. The fabrics are all from Ruby Star Society. Isn't this gorgeous?

| Raindrops On Water E2E on Preeti's Spring Broken Improv Quilt |
I love it when clients send me quilt tops that are so different from the projects I'm working on myself. I've never tried my hand at improv piecing before, but now I've made up my mind to sign up for an improv piecing workshop the very next time I have an opportunity to do so.
We chose the Raindrops on Water quilting design because of the energy those spiraling curves create as a counterpoint to the fractured straight lines in the improv piecing. The design also reminded Preeti of raindrops falling on the Tidal Basin at the National Mall, or of the ripples created when cherry blossom petals flutter down and land on the surface of the water. We used Quilter's Dream Cotton batting. The quilting thread is So Fine 50 weight in color Peach Tart.
The Raindrops on Water E2E design looks great on so many different quilts, especially modern quilts like this one.

I couldn't get the lighting to cooperate with me on the day of my photo shoot -- just could not get a shot of the entire quilt that showed the cheerful, vivid colors accurately but that also showed the texture of the quilting design, and I couldn't reshoot on another day because I needed to ship the finished quilt back to Preeti. My favorite shot is this one below, with shadows created by my window shutters.

| Hand Stitching Half Inch Binding on Giverny Teleidoscope Quilt |
With a week to go before the end of the month, I'm about 3/4 finished hand stitching the binding on my son Anders' Giverny Teleidoscope high school graduation quilt. I'm just working on that at night by the television when I'm too tired to safely operate machinery. So I should have that totally finished and ready to share by the end of this week. I've also been working on a few other clients' quilts that I can't share quite yet. And there is BIG NEWS coming soon from my studio in conjunction with a birthday that is being foisted upon me this Thursday, but this blog post is long enough so I'll wait to share my news until next time! 😉
My To-Do list for this week is short and sweet:
- Finish binding Anders' kaleidoscope quilt and get it washed, photographed, and delivered to the church office
- Two client quilts need quilting and two more need binding
- Research, planning, and a few major decisions remaining to be made regarding my Big Birthday Surprise!

I loved this when I saw the background, then saw it on Preeti's blog and again here. That design is perfect for this quilt. Love the wide binding and the hand stitching at night is perfect...I find that is the best time, too, for me. Improv isn't my thing....I always feel like it is a hot mess. Let me know if you find a class you want to do, maybe I'll join in if it zoom!
Oh my the spiral quilting is stunning and just makes this sweet quilt so perfectly full of love and sweetness. I too like to sew binding in the evening, when I'm exhausted. Wonderful quilt design. I am using rulers to do my Footnote quilt and using circles to "target" some of the blocks. Orange Peels on the rest of them for a change up.
